Thinking About The Light
"Considering Light." This is the brand keyword that KOHKOH advocates. Through the medium of jewelry, we continuously explore the possibilities of new technologies and materials, questioning what value we can offer to society. Our brand embodies this posture of deeply "considering" the answers to these questions, likening them to "light." This is the meaning encapsulated in the name "KOHKOH."
BRAND STORY
命名の由来
"KOHKOH"
The brand name KOHKOH also draws inspiration from the way pearls shine "brilliantly." Pearls are beautiful in their radiance, and their glow evokes a noble image, so we incorporated the sound and feel of the word "Kohkoh" (brilliant).
The Origin
Origin
The project began with the desire to propose new designs using nacre of various shapes, moving beyond the traditional concept that pearls are round.
After more than two years of testing, we succeeded in cultivating pearls of various shapes. In 2021, we obtained a patent for forming letters and figures using a high-precision 3D printer and creating beautiful nacre around them. Using this patented technology, we propose original and elegant pearl jewelry that combines pearls with gemstones, as if covering them.
ジレンマ
Conflict
In the apparel industry, raising animals for luxury goods like fur and leather is generally considered taboo. Our involvement in pearl cultivation led to a conflict: "Are we sacrificing lives by designing and cultivating pearls?" To address this conflict, we arrived at the solution of "respectfully designing the pearl oysters we cultivate, even the mother-of-pearl that is usually discarded, and crafting them into jewelry to eliminate waste." This journey led to the birth of a unique jewelry brand that designs both the pearls it cultivates and their mother-of-pearl.
Director
Takashi Kojima
KOHKOH is directed by world-renowned contemporary jewelry artist Takashi Kojima. His original designs, which structurally set gemstones together, were born from the design approaches and concept development he learned in architecture, and have received high acclaim both in Japan and overseas.

MOP (Mother of Pearl)
View productsWe are committed to sustainable manufacturing by repurposing Pinctada maxima (white-lipped pearl oysters) that died during the cultivation process. These mother-of-pearl shells are then transformed by artisans into new design motifs.
